Does anyone know of a ficfinders comm that allows the sharing of saved copies, not just links? Because off the top of my head, I can't think of one and I need it.
No, but my gut reaction is that it would be a locked comm, otherwise the wank surrounding it would be immense; I can imagine the OMG U STOEL MAH FIC :) I don't know which fandom you're looking in, but people do seem relatively willing to share archived copies on the TW ficfinding comms.
Thanks! I heard several free web-hosting sites are going to be pulled down as non-profitable and I have a ton of fics I save to read later - but I don't always get all the chapters. I don't want to fall in love with something and then just be screwed at getting more. And more people seem to be flouncing off the internet lately.
I mean, I get not sharing something that was posted under lock; it's the whole "I posted it in public but let's pretend I didn't" thing that bugs me.
(I might have flounced off the internet at one stage about 6 years ago... none of my fic from then seems to exist at all. I don't know whether to be relieved or sad that I have bad google-fu skills.)
Yeah, I know I have no chance of ever vanishing now. It scares me a bit, tbh. But fanfic writers can often get quite proprietary; all the warnings about XYZ OC/plot element is MINE and YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM spring to mind.
Maybe there's a need for that sort of ficfinder comm to get set up, if hosting sites are going down?
I am thisclose to starting one. Current fans can back stuff up pretty easily at other sites, but a lot of sites are just dead in the water at this point. Most Sports Night sites, for example.
