I went and read that fic. It was so good and the only thing I know about the fandom is what I learned from wikipedia.

Hikaru no Go is fandom full of ridiculousness! I love it. On the one hand, it's socially awkward teenage boys who are Eternal Rivals in a really hilariously passionate way and on the other hand, you have this sad story about a boy and his ghost. Layers, they are awesome. I've got links to some more fic here, plus a couple gen fics here.
