They're Like the Ratty Old Sweatpants of My Fan-Brain
Today, you get a selection of comfort-fic. Not h/c (...necessarily), just the stories that make me comfortable, that I've read so many times, whole sections are indeliby imprinted on my brain.
Lost and Found (gen) [Angel] and Temps Perdu (also gen) [also Angel] - Wesley is very much my favorite for Angel. So much so that I spent half of Seasons 3 & 4 calling the entire rest of the cast (excepting Lilah) sanctimonious bastards and hoping they would die (Wes and Lilah plotting against each other as major players in the battle of Good and Evil while also having hot sex would have been a better show all around). elgrey writes the best Wes-fic I have ever seen, it means something. Lost and Found is horrible and perfect; Wes tries something desperate to get Connor back and it goes about as badly as it can for him (warnings for torture and noncon). Temps Perdu veers into AU right before the end of Season 5; Angel and Wesley go through a portal into a hell-dimension to avert an apocalypse. There is some absolutely fantastic stuff about memory, and especially Angel's issues with memory, and also grief and dealing with trauma and the ways people change and basicaly, I love it lots, go read them both, and then every other Buffyverse fic she's ever written; every single one of them has at least one thing that stopped me in my tracks and made me go "yes, that, exactly".
Enigmatic Absurdities (gen) [House/BtVS] - Angel has to be rescued from House. Just, absolutely hilarious and amazing; I've probably read it two dozen times and it still makes me laugh.
Seal Team 13 (gen) [Series in Progress] [BtVS/JAG/Supernatural/The Craft/Jake 2.0/Hackers/Stargate SG-1/Invisible Man/every fandom, ever, I don't even know, it's Tenhawk; his MO is basically "take my fave characters from every show/book/movie, toss 'em together, and make them fight evil"] - The Navy decides it needs someone experienced to help them set up a team to take on the supernatural...and Xander's the only Scoob to pass the security check. ID-FIC, but it is amazing the joy it brings me. LOGISTICS, MY NOT-SO-SECRET WEAKNESS. Also TRAINING and PREPAREDNESS and XANDER. A++, basically.
A Good Man Is Hard to Find (gen) [RPF] - Serial killer fic makes me so happy and I don't understand whyyyyy.
Instructional (gen) [Stargate Atlantis] - Don't underestimate the power of the geek! I don't even care if it's fanon, reading about Rodney breaking men's wills to live is hilarious to me.
Compelled to Play Again (Xander/Anya, Wes/Illyria, Wes/Faith, Dawn/Connor, probably other pairings I'm not remembering) [BtVS] - TIME TRAVEL. FAVORITE CLICHE. REASON FOR THIS POST. There are just so many things I love about this story (LOGISTICS!!). Fighting evil on a giant scale! Evil fighting back in clever ways! Poly! Badass fucking Watchers training up scary fucking Slayers!
A Black Comedy (Various het pairings) [Harry Potter] - Speaking of things I love: Alternate dimensions! Saying a big "FUCK YOU" to the Wizarding government! Sirius is alive! Also, the nundu hunt? Made me laugh so hard I LITERALLY almost peed myself. The whole thing is funny? But that part - the disapparition field, the arm, just, everything - made the whole fic.
