Okay, so I only found a copy of an ebook that was pulled from distribution, not, like, discovered a planet.

BUT IT WAS GONE, AND THEN I FOUND IT, AND ALSO A BUNCH MORE BOOKS, AND NOW I WANT TO QUOTE WEST WING.

Seriously, how is it that you have been getting free ebooks?

In this case, I googled desperately until I found a file that seemed legit and it was connected to many OTHER files: here, here, and here. I can verify that ZA Maxfield's The Long Way Home is a workable copy that hasn't set my hard drive aflame (thus far?), but I haven't delved much into the rest yet.

There's also a mysterious forum of sff ebooks that I don't think I'm supposed to link unlocked anymore.

I tried to pay for it and NO ONE WOULD LET ME. SO FRUSTRATING. I was definitely not going to be able to wait for the re-release "sometime in the spring".

Have you read the Psycop series? It's not perfect, but I'm kind of loving it.

Totally have! I love the worldbuilding and the characters, but after book 3, it faltered some for me? I think the handling of the mytharc put me off. And I'm on the fence about buying most of JCP's other stuff, which makes me sad, but vampires and corporate conspiracies = not currently my bag.

Yeeeah, I have to agree with you on that one. When I first discovered the series I read them all back-to-back in like a week in a haze, but after my second read-through I was much less impressed. The latest one (have you read it?) introduced a character that happens to be a remote viewer, and he's kind of the most interesting character so far imho.

I haven't read any of her other stuff. None of it ever appealed. /: Edit: Tbqh, Twilight kind of ruined vampires for me? Idk. The only "vampire" anything I even remotely enjoyed after that tred was Let The Right One In.

It's the same problem I have with Lindsay Buroker! Love the author; hate the plots she chooses to write.

TWILIGHT RUINS EVERYTHING. But really it's kind of the flagship of Paranormal Romance, which is what really ruined vampires for me. There were paranormal romances in the nineties - LJ Smith's The Vampire Diaries, for one* - but they seemed much more "VAMPIRES are bad, but this one is different and I love him" rather than the current "vampires are misunderstood and sexy and I love this one (or maybe this one?)".

I NEED THE SERIAL KILLING PUT BACK IN THIS GENRE.

*I kind of want to make everyone I know that likes Twilight read LJS's Daughters of Darkness, because it's a normal girl who attracts a vampire and a werewolf and must Choose Between Them, but really she chooses HERSELF and tells the vampire to come back when he's grown up some more (the werewolf is crazy).
