So I've spent the last week in Stephanie Plum fandom and I need recs, guys. So much of it is bad and the worst I can't even make fun of properly because the author's dead. Oh my god, het fandoms, why so terrible.
Also there is a story I need desperately but I don't think it exists: the one where Ranger has a tracking kink, like that Social Network fic with Eduardo's heart monitor. There are so many fics where he just tracks her movements whenever he's even curious and I want it to be a thing for him.

And yes on the tracking kink fic. But I have no faith in that fandom's ability to cough anything like that up. The intense sexual repression in the books seems to attract, um. I'll just stop there.

I am just using ff.net's "sort by favorites" option and um. I have read LITERALLY one million words of this mess and I've found FOUR STORIES that I would rec. Two of them are by the same author! ...I am currently reading saving her remaining fics as a palate cleanser when it gets too much (A DUDE CANNOT FUCK YOU 36 TIMES IN THREE DAYS - HE WILL DEHYDRATE).
I just want it so much! There was a Plum/In Plain Sight crossover where Mary was completely baffled/angered by all the trackers and Stephanie just completely shrugged it off and I just. He tracks her electronically, and with minions, and breaks into her place, and she just rolls with it like it ain't no thing and it is DEEPLY WEIRD. I love it, obviously, but still, I would read all of the fic about Ranger's kink about it, whatever slant somebody wanted to put on it (is it a voyeurism kink? a control kink? don't care! I am in).
But yes, I don't actually think I'll find it, unless somebody busted it out for kink bingo or similar.

Oh, gosh, the yahoogroups. So I think this is an artifact of one of those uncomfortable fandoms where the fandom happened in the author's space. I'm not sure of the history or whatever, but I think there used to be a mailinglist -- or something -- that Evanovich participated on. And the fandom started happening there, and it was weird, so everyone retreated to a nested set of semi-private yahoogroups, where a lot of the fic is posted in the files section. For real! There's a whole set of them -- plumfanfiction1, plumfanfiction2, etc. and one called plumfanfictionreference to try and keep some form of organization. There is also a supposed enclave for porn -- I think that one is plumfanfictionrestricted? something like that -- because apparently semi-private groups wasn't enough? But I think even a few years ago the boundaries were breaking down on that one. There's actually a fair amount of fic hidden away in there.
Anyway, I know I did find some things that I enjoyed. There was one fun one where Stephanie and Ranger have a series of wagers/deals and repeatedly pwn each other, which was pleasing. I just don't remember who wrote anything, which isn't helped by the fact that half the fic has some numbers related title. I do remember one of the groups -- maybe the reference one -- has a bunch of different reclists. Go with caution, my friend.
