• Joining a space colony should be cheap and easy! ... Because the more daredevil idiots we get rid of, the more space we open up here. (First generation colonist = It was this or slit my wrists!)


• The neural interface that lets you surf the internet with your MIND sounds awesome, but it mostly means that Blue Screen of Death can actually kill you. Wait a couple software generations and they'll be able to upload your consciousness instead! a) With proper precations, you can change your mind and tail it back to meatspace without trying to reverse a costly and invasive brain surgery! b) Skipping the inevitable luddite backlash against "mods" = A++ c) Uploads = backup files!


• Having backup organs ready to hand in case of emergency is just good planning! But go "discrete cloned organs" and not "full out clone". The pig they use to grow your heart will never kill you and take your life!


• There's nothing wrong with gengineering monsters out of myth and legend...as long as you make them adorable pocket-size replicas. Come on, who wouldn't want a little teacup-unicorn you could name Stabby, or a feisty-yet-irresistable four-inch hydra you could use to scare the SHIT out of your boss's irritating yap-dog? And bonus, no danger of your new pet goring anyone to death/ripping off your arm/accidentally stomping the house with your whole family trapped inside!


• If it has tentacles, wait for a full bio workup before having sex with it. Nothing kills the mood like surprise anaphylaxis from tentacle slime in embarrassing places!

Only one? I like There's Just One Guy Doing All These Covers, Isn't There; because I've gotten to the point where I don't even pay attention to the covers anymore. They all look the same and they all have nothing to do with the books.

Sometimes I walk into a bookstore and just really, really want to yell about I liked this stuff BEFORE it was cool! I bet you don't even know who Renfield is! POSERS!

I hate people acting like that! That whole I used to like this band but now they're total corporate sellouts thing is just indie-elitist bullshit...AND NOW I HAVE TO SYMPATHIZE WITH IT. Because if I have to hear once more about how very much LJ Smith ripped off Twilight when she wrote the Vampire Diaries, I'm going to punch that person in the face until they hand over the time machine that tells them that is a possibility.

I have been reading about vampires since second grade, aka, 1994. You do not get to hop on the bandwagon, tell us we're DOIN IT WRONG, and defang all our monsters because it's so much BETTER when they're sexy and deep and full of pain for their lost humanity, but of course don't actually eat people or really even want to.
