My Life Is a Pros and Cons List
Nov. 9th, 2007 11:39 pmSo. Today was my second day of work and on the one hand, yay for having a job (my first job that wasn't handed to me through family/personal connections! it's like I'm a grown-up or something) and making some money, especially with the holidays. And everybody at work has so far been friendly and incredibly patient with my mistakes.
On the other hand. My feet are fucking killing me; standing up for 6-8 hours is ridiculously painful. Supposedly I will get used to it. After I get used to it, though, I will still be working at frickin' Atwoods, which is like a ranchy small-time Walmart. This sucks because you get customers trying to buy chicken wire 20 ft. tall and you get to figure farm tax and about a third of your orders include items that aren't physically at the counter, so you get to print a special loading ticket and also figure out the price from a description of the invisible item. Also, it's a small store, so cashiers get a list of chores for the day and are expected to wander around pitching in during lulls. Which seems a little weird to me, because if I'm in a store and don't see any cashiers, I don't go to the register and wait for them to get back; I either go look at something back in the store or just leave without buying anything.
But. It's part-time, it's temporary, I can hack it 'til something better comes up.
