WHY DID I NOT KNOW THIS
Apr. 22nd, 2009 07:22 pmSo I love the song El Paso, right? They used to play it a lot at work and it is hilarious/quintessentially country and I won a dollar off a customer for knowing who sings it - Marty Robbins.
Who has somehow stretched El Paso into three songs. "El Paso" is the story of the young cowboy doomed by love for the flirtatious Faleena, "Faleena" is the girl's song - a "she didn't mean for men to die for her coquettish ways" backstory, and "El Paso City" is about Marty Robbins's inability to let go of the El Paso story. No, really, like, explicitly. I find the whole thing delightful and (still) hilarious. Because...okay, the song is like COUNTRY OPERA - gunfighting, Mexico, homicidal jealousy, and a death speech. You should ALL listen to it. In fact, here.
