strina: daniel reading with shot of atlantis in background - textless (daniel - book)
So, I'm reading some original fic and it's kind of hilarious and kind of awful and kind of great all at once. Like, the author's basically like "ahahaha, "consent", right" all over the place, but it's mostly not rape-y? The one fic is very fuck-or-die with an undertone of "he has to be forced to admit he likes it" (that undertone bothers me much more than the rest of it). The other is a treaty marriage where the alien's psychic hands are very much on the side of DO NOT MOLEST THE UNCONSCIOUS HUMAN even if the rest of him isn't, so much, but there're also pretty clear signals that the undertone will persist. I am totally up for some dubcon, but I don't enjoy the forcing someone to admit/face their sexuality tropes. It feels like just as big a dick move as forced outing, because in a lot of cases, THAT'S WHAT'S HAPPENING, even if you're only outing them to themselves. Hitting on/seducing the straight guy, whatever, maneuvering the straight guy into sex so you can be all ADMIT THAT YOU'RE GAY BECAUSE YOU LIKED IT, all of the no. Enjoying a sensation does not equal an attraction to the person supplying the sensation.

On the other hand, cat people and timeslipped linguists and sex nanites and treaty marriages and psychic hands and candyfloss hair. (ETA: LITERAL SEX HAIR. HAIR THAT IS AN EROGENOUS ZONE. THERE ARE JOKES ABOUT "SHORT-HAIRS" AND THEIR SIMILARLY TINY DICKS. I REALLY DO LOVE HER WORLD-BUILDING.)

Also, I spent a pretty significant amount of the first story just wanting someone to teach Max more words so his husband will stop feeling justified about restricting his choices. That whole thing will get approximately 1000% times better once Max can give Kasan a verbal punch in the face about the coddling.
