Why do 85% of your stories break down into either pre-beach happiness and/or kink or post-beach angst and/or kink with a background "inevitable slide into enmity" vibe? WHY CAN THIS NOT BE AN ELSEWORLD WHERE, AT THIS POINT, THEY'VE BEEN TOGETHER FOR DECADES AND JUST GOT MARRIED, THANK YOU NEW YORK. Also, I am totally down with your "Magneto is awesome", but VERY MUCH NOT with your "Charle's arrogance and idealism = he totally needs to get mentally tortured and then shot and paralysed and THEN abandoned by his sister and his boyfriend. FOR CHARACTER BUILDING." Like, there is not enough capslock for my FUCK YOU. I want my FUCK YOU to actually leap off the screen and slap you across the face.
I feel like this fandom is going to be my more rage-y equivalent to Star Trek: Reboot, where most of the fandom is all SPOCK or MAGNETO, and I am over here all KIRK and CHAAAARLES. Because Charles has always been my favorite! I have spent YEARS intermittently reading Charles-fic that MADE ME WANT TO CRY, because of his true/doomed love for Magneto, and now there is new canon! Where he and his boyfriend are living together and crying in each other's arms and FEELINGS ARE EVERYWHERE AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL and then they break up in the final minutes! But that happened in Devil Wears Prada and look at all the fic that got Andy and Miranda back together, it is/was beautiful!
BUT WHAT AM I READING.
STORIES ABOUT THEIR TRUE/DOOMED LOVE THAT MAKE ME WANT TO CRY.
ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS RIGHT NOW.
I DO NOT WANT THIS ERIC AND THIS CHARLES TO BECOME THE CHARLES AND ERIC IN GOLDEN, BECAUSE THAT UNIVERSE? FILLD TO THE FUCKING BRIM WITH TRAGEDY. "Charles remembers the anniversary of the day they met because every day of the fifty years he has known Erik Lensherr is another day he has been hurt by him, one way or another. He needs to keep count so that he can stand to be away from the source of the pain. He needs these moments of contact to remind him that the pain is not merely political, but personal.
When he fell in love, it was as if he put a knife into the other man's hand and invited him to use it. Even on their best days, Erik has never failed to accept the invitation."
I AM SERIOUSLY OVER IT.
Also there's some weird stuff going on re: telepathy that kind of bothers me, where if it's shown in a positive light, it's being used either during sex or to facilitate future sex, but otherwise there's this thing about ~mindcontrol~, like of course a telepath won't see a moral difference between hiding from an enemy (I include the memory erasing in that) or making an enemy turn away/hold still and, y'know, CHANGING A FRIEND/LOVER'S MORALITY CONSTRUCT/IDEOLOGY. Like, fuck you guys (but not as much as those other guys above - other guys, here's another: FUCK YOU).
