People, my mother read to me in the womb; I was never going to be not a bookworm. I just - I love everything about books, the size, the weight, the smell of them, even the way reading a collector's edition leaves my fingers smudged with ink. I love how concrete they are, and I love looking at them as they pile up in every corner of my space, and I love that I can carry one with me anywhere and always. - diana wynne jones:
OMG, Howl's Moving Castle and The Dark Lord of Derkholm. How do you resist such a woman? I can't. - fanfiction:
Fanfiction, OMG, fanfiction. It's fiction that you get for free and you read it and you know someone loves what you love and sometime's their why is your why and sometimes it's not, but that doesn't matter, because you still share a joy and a love and an obsession that's so developed it has its own language. And also, boy/boy = TEH AWESOME. - himym:
(How I Met Your Mother doesn't work as an interest, so, had to go with the acronym.) Liking this show surprised me. And then, episode three, I fell heels-up in love with it. Barney! And Ted! And their ridiculous adventures! And Marshall and Lily! I love them, too! But mostly, I love Barney, because he's my favorite soulless little man-whore EVER. - linguistics:
I love words. I love words, and I love knowing things like the dirty, dirty origin of "hunky-dory" (sailors and Japanese whores, yo). - mercedes lackey:
I like classic Mercedes Lackey, mostly. The Mage Winds trilogy was the first Lackey I ever read, and then I devoured the other Valdemar books (except the Vanyel books, which I didn't read until two years and omg, what did he ever do to YOU?), and then I read her urban fantasy, and you know what? Sometimes this woman absolutely rocks. - poetry:
I write it. I love reading it. I once got drunk off of reading Ginsberg. I hate Emily Dickinson, enjoy Shakespeare more as a poet than a playwright, have been ridiculously in love with AE Housman since the first time I read "Terence, this is stupid stuff" in one of my parents' old college lit textbook. I think a lot of modern American poetry is graceless. McClatchy's The Vintage Book of Contemporary World Poetry is one of my favorite five books of all time. - scrubs:
I didn't twig to this show until several seasons in, but I love it. I love it for being quirky and over the top and, sometimes, surprisingly heartfelt. I love JD's narration and fantasy sequences and I love basically every character on the show, which is a rare, rare thing. Also, the fanfiction is nice. What there is of it. - tanya huff:
I love Tanya Huff as much for her writing as for the stories she tells. I want to just sink into it. Also, the spinoff series about Tony from the Vicki Nelson books? About twice as good as its progenitor series and I <3 it. - wislawa szymborska:
Oh my GOD. "Reality Demands", and "Under a Certain Little Star", and "Theater Impressions", and "The Women of Rubens", and I love her.
