On This, The Anniversary of My Madness
Feb. 11th, 2008 11:42 pmOr close enough.
Once upon a time, I had a little bout of fannish ennui. So I decided to cure it with a new project, because nothing rekindles my joy like sharing what I love with other people. And I have this thing I do, where I try something, repeat it a few times to perfect it, and then have to make it harder because I apparently enjoy driving myself crazy. And I'd done 14 (and a half) lists with my oh-so-shiny prompt tables, so it was time to change things up.
I took all eight
list50 tables, put the prompts on little slips of paper, and drew them at random, ending up with seven tables of fifty-five, plus a remix table, which left me to find 400 fics; nothing I hadn't done before, but a little tougher, because I was running low on stockpiled reccables. But I cannibalised a couple of partial tables and got off to a promising start. And then it all went horribly wrong. Turns out, if the tables are random, you need a little more wiggle-room than just five spare prompts.
About three months in, I think, I gave in and started on mark 2 of the bitch, which got the newly minted table nine added to the mix, and I ended up with 67 prompts a table for seven tables, plus a remix table that...y'all, I had 91 stories for 50 slots. At the end of things? I had enough overflow from the main set of lists to put together an additional four and a half lists, though I kept it down to just three more than anticipated.
Initial goal: 400 stories. Actual result: 1020+ stories.
Initial goal: 4-6 months. Actual result: 12 and a half months.
Ahahaha, god. This thing is ridiculous. It spans more than a year of fannish consumption, so there are quite a few fandoms (65+), some of them new to me. I found new authors, new pairings (the True and Doomed Love of Sylar and Mohinder, for example), and more than doubled my number of Smallville and RPS recs. There's fic that was published before I found fandom and stuff that came out a week ago.
There's so much that I'm publishing a masterlist of all the fics in this monster. Gen and Het, Femslash, Threesomes/Moresomes, and Mixed Multiples, Slash, Fandoms A - R, and Slash, Fandoms S - X. Asterisks mean I love it, two mean it is my BELOVED.
